Chris Lefteri as a visionary-in-residence

Chris Lefteri is/will be a visionary-in-residence at Art Center College of Design for a month (starting last Monday). He has a Design Research Consultant in UK focusing on Material and its applications to design. He also has published 8 books about inspiring materials. I had an opportunity to listen to his presentation and also join the informal discussions with him. Stories of his past/current projects, experiences and design philosophy have already inspired me to think differently and explore areas I haven't gotten into.
Chris Picture is from his 100 material exhibit.

Serious Trash by Nathan Cook

Dscn3537Art Center College of Design  student/blogger Nathan Cook has written a provocative post on his blog. He raises his concerns expressing the frustration toward school. Especially the frustration in not seeing enough commitments to stay as a competitive design school in its own behaviors. He makes a great point in comparing/contrasting two conferences Art Center has hosted in last three months, Sustainability Summit & Serious Play.

Instead of paraphrasing his contents (because we think you will enjoy reading his original article), we like to say one thing.

We would strongly stand behind Nathan's point of view and support the voice that is truly coming from the source of Art Center. It's not just about the tuition raise, sustainability (or un-sustainability) nor president's salary. It is about the need for Art Center community to come together to do the right thing as a entity. Who else is in it?

Orange Juice!

Orange_juice_bannerAudrey Liu, Nathan Cook and and I started this new blog called Orange Juice as a collaborative pool to collect and share inspiration/creativity/design during and after life at art center. We will be co-authors of this new blog and will be looking for more co-authors who would like to participate (so far we recruited Frido to be a part)! We feel that this will be a great place to expand our network, bounce ideas and just a cool communal place to hang out:)

Cheers!

scale

South_campusACCD south campus on Raymond, Pasadena has a famous wind tunnel. Huge space totally out of scale. Sometimes it is helpful to see the human scale.

accd Produc Design Final: Bird House

Img_1361 Img_1363 Img_1364 Img_1366Img_1365 This week is Art Center's week 14. (final week of semester) We thought it would be nice to share snapshots from different presentations throughout the week. This one is from Product Design 1 taught by Norm Schureman and Laura Dye. Assignment was to design a bird house/feeder. Some really clever ideas and also very elaborative presentation.
